Vertical Speed (VS) Penalties¶

(1) On the climb: In terms of passenger comfort, if +4750 fps VS is exceeded and this situation is not corrected within 3 seconds, a penalty will be imposed, and emergency announcements will be heard at +8000 fpm VS.

(2) On descent:
(a) Up to 10.000 ft: According to the destination elevation (Dest AAL), if it is descended with a VS lower than -4500 fpm until 10,000 ft. remains, a penalty is applied, but the emergency is an exception. If there is one of the emergencies given by FDR, in this case, it can be descended up to 10.000 ft (Dest AAL) with a vertical speed of -7500 fpm; if this number is exceeded, a penalty will be issued, and emergency announcements will be heard. There is a tolerance of 500 feet and 3 sec. (Rule has been changed)

(b) Between 10.000 ft and 2500 ft
(Dest AAL): Depending on the destination elevation (Dest AAL), a penalty will be applied if descending with a VS lower than -3000 fpm, even if it is an emergency, between 10.000 ft and 2500 ft. There is a 3-sec tolerance. (New)

(c) Between 2500 ft –500 ft
(Dest AAL): Depending on the destination elevation (Dest AAL) between 2500 ft and 500 ft, even if there is an emergency, a penalty will be applied in case of descending with a VS lower than -1300 fpm. There is a tolerance of -100 fpm and 3 sec. (New)

(d) Between 500 ft –0 ft
(Dest AAL), i.e. during touch down: In case of descent with VS lower than -1000 fpm even in an emergency between 500 ft and 0 ft (until touch down) according to the destination elevation (Dest AAL) penalty is written. There is a tolerance of -100 fpm and 3 sec. (New)
