QNH penalties (Altimeter settings)¶
Our FDR strictly monitors the QNH adjustment to avoid problems that can go as far as creating a CFIT (Controlled Flight Into Terrain) situation, especially when incorrectly set in low visibility conditions.
-
No matter what stage of flight you are at, if you are below 1000 ft AGL and there is more than 2 HpA difference between local QNH and your aircraft's adjustment, FDR will charge a penalty. (500 ft in VFR flights) (Rule has been changed)
-
On departure: You don’t have to set Std QNH until 19.000 ft, you may keep the QNH value as set for take off, but FDR will look for Std QNH when passing 19.000 ft. In other words, FDR will always charge a penalty if QNH is not 1013 (Std QNH) over FL190. (Rule has been changed)
-
FDR does not operate according to the METAR information announced in VATSIM, but according to the QNH value in the environment where the aircraft is physically located. If you are charged a penalty despite setting the QNH value that ATCs reported to you in a VATSIM environment, we recommend that you check your simulation's weather plugin settings or use a better plugin.
