Cost Index¶

A cost index is entered into an aircraft’s Flight Management Computer (FMC) or (MCDU) to give a balance between speed and fuel efficiency. Generally, a cost index varies for each flight and can be adjusted to suit whether the pilot wants to fly the aircraft at a higher cruise speed than normal or use the most cost economical profile possible.
